Atlantic develops constant programs to ensure the monitoring and mitigation of environmental impact both in its operating enterprises and in the ones in implementation stages. Find out more about some of the activities developed by the company.

Environmental Control

By complying with legal specifications – and going further –, Atlantic ensures environmental control of its operations, performing environmental supervision and monitoring, management of effluent, solid waste and emissions management, control and action in environmental emergencies and proper control of vegetation removal.

Water Resources and Soils

Following the company’s DNA, Atlantic pays full attention to water resources and soil in all enterprises, performing constant monitoring of water quality and erosion control and promoting environmental recovery.

Atlantic performs a set of actions that aim to protect the fauna and the flora around its enterprises, integrating operations to local ecosystems with the least possible interference. Besides that, educational actions are constantly executed with employees, collaborators and the community.

Native Forest Reforestation

Atlantic invests in reforestation actions with native species in its enterprises to recover degraded areas, replace suppressed vegetation and recover areas that are protected by law. Actions developed are based in studies and previous planning for definition of species and methods to be used in each area, optimizing resources and ensuring the success of each initiative.

Native Forest Reforestation also comprises monitoring and maintenance of crops for sustainable growth and reconstitution of the area, allowing the ecosystem’s development through integration with local biodiversity.

Fauna Monitoring and Protection

Atlantic performs fauna monitoring actions in all its enterprises, detecting possible deviations in local ecosystems to ensure that prevention measures are being effective in protecting local fauna. Information gathered by fauna monitoring also contributes to understand local biodiversity.

Monitoring is carried out since construction stages and goes through the operational stage, always comparing the situation before, during and after operations. Many measurement methods, suitable to animal groups and to the area to be monitored, are used, like bird listening spots, track identification on the soil and automatically activated photographic cameras.

Other measures adopted by the company for protection are putting signs for birds in transmission lines to avoid their collision with electrical wires, creating tunnels for animals to pass and developing environmental education actions to avoid predatory hunting and road accidents with animals.

Vegetation Removal Control

When implanting its projects, Atlantic adopts measures to minimize vegetation removal and impact on local fauna, such as preliminary planning of areas to be suppressed, prioritizing those with little or no influence on local flora and reducing necessary areas for implementing projects. The company performs strict supervision of vegetal suppression actions and conducts prior animal chase and rescue to minimize damage to local fauna.

Climate Change Prevention

Generation of renewable energy has low social and environmental impact and prevents emission of greenhouse effect gases. Atlantic makes a yearly inventory of greenhouse effect gases in all its enterprises to ensure its operations keep contributing to climate change prevention.
