Athletes from Curitiba traditional paralympic team, Gladiadores Quad Rugby, started october really well. The Paraná sportsmans, who once took part in Parapan-Americano of Lima, were honored at the Paralympic Military Festival, held on october 5.
Besides receiving honorable mention, the athletes, sponsored by Atlantic Energias Renováveis, also represented the modality sharing information about the sport. “Getting people to engage in the activities and sit on the game chair is important for them to live the sport as it is. That way, they stop seeing the other only as a physically disabled person”, says Carlos Kamarowski Jr., Gladiadores projects and communication coordinator.
In total, four paralympics modalities were presented at the event: athletics, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby and seated volleyball.
The meeting brought together nearly 200 participants, including people with disabilities, escorts, professionals and guests.
The Festival aims to work on militaries self-esteem and also to bring paralympic sport closer to the military population with disabilities. Society as a whole also benefits from the action, as the sports practice contributes to the return of productive individuals to social environment.
